Experience the Icelandic Highlands with our thrilling luxury adventure tour. Embark on a journey that will take you to visit breathtaking cascades and verdant canyons, all while enjoying stunning views of the Eyjafjallajökull glacier-volcano and glaciers that have been blanketed in ash during past eruptions. Sit back and enjoy the view from your exclusive private 4x4 vehicle.
Itinerary:
Begin your day tour with a morning pick-up from your hotel and head straight to Iceland's famous Ring Road. We will travel past spectacular landscapes and take in the views of active volcanoes, remote farms, dramatic mountains and the North- Atlantic ocean.
After a scenic drive, the first stop is Seljalandsfoss, a breathtaking waterfall that offers a unique perspective from behind the cascade. Prepare to get wet, and don't forget your raincoat!
Next, we get off the beaten track and head to Þórsmörk, or the "valley of Thor," surrounded by glaciers and mountains, including Gígjökull glacier tongue. Take in the famous Eyjafjallajökull from up close, the glacier-volcano that interfered with air traffic all over Europe during its 2010 eruption.
We will visit Stakkholtsgjá canyon, which was a filming location for the popular HBO show Game of Thrones. The canyon is formed by towering cliffs that rise up to 100 meters (328 feet) high on either side of a narrow passage. The canyon walls are covered with lush green vegetation in summer, and a crystal-clear stream flows through the bottom of the canyon.
Driving further into Þórsmörk valley, we’ll have to cross through some rivers in our jeep to arrive at the campsite. Here we’ll stop to give you the chance to go enjoy some short hikes, relishing the fantastic views of the glacial river beds along with the backdrop of the surrounding glaciers and mountains.
There will be some additional stops, depending on the time remaining as well as the weather conditions on the day of the tour, of course. One possibility is a visit to Nauthúsagil, a beautiful ravine with steep walls that are covered in lush green vegetation in summer and a waterfall at the end. A crystal-clear stream flows through the bottom of the canyon, and there are several small waterfalls along the way.
The hiking trail through Nauthúsagil canyon is relatively short, taking around 45 minutes to an hour to complete. However, it can be quite challenging, as hikers will need to navigate through narrow passages and climb over rocks and boulders, so it is up to you if you would like to take this detour or not.
Additional activities that are available to those interested include a snowmobiling trip on Eyjafjallajokull, an off-road buggy ride, horseback riding, and a lava cave tour.
Please note that our private tours are flexible and can make stops wherever desired.
